A Biblical Reflection of Strength, Support, and Victory
In Exodus 17:8–13, we see a stirring image of endurance and teamwork in the face of struggle. As Joshua led Israel into battle, Moses stood on a hill with the staff of God raised in his hands. It was a posture of intercession and faith. But when fatigue took over, Moses' hands faltered — and so did the Israelites’ advantage. That’s when Aaron and Hur stepped in. They gave Moses a stone to sit on and held up his arms, steady and unwavering. And through this shared strength, Joshua overcame the enemy.
This story isn’t just about military triumph. It’s a timeless reminder that life’s battles are not meant to be fought alone.
Which is why I believe counselling can be so powerful. Too often, we fight our battles alone, we are afraid to seek help and we are reluctant to even reveal that we are struggling mentally and emotionally. This story shows that victory is a team effort.
So if you are facing mental struggles, tell someone who cares. This can be a loved one or maybe even a complete stranger - one who is trained to listen and qualified to offer the support you need.
Statistics show that most people who need mental health support struggle for 1-2 years before seeking professional help. If an ancient figure like Moses can recognise his own limitations, the symbolism of Aaron and Hur as his moral and physical support cannot be underestimated.
At Hope Is Mine Counselling, we believe in the power of divine companionship and human support. Whether you're weary, overwhelmed, or simply seeking direction, know this: God not only sees your struggle — He sends helpers to lift you up, steady your heart, and journey with you.
Let us be your Aaron and Hur, standing beside you with practical support. Email: info@hopeismine.com.au
